With this post, we close a series of articles where we have tried to summarize what Emotional Intelligence is and how it is determined.
Benefits of emotional intelligence
Today we’ll talk about the benefits that a good strategy based on this area of industrial psychology brings to the business world.
There are numerous studies that demonstrate that Emotional Intelligence in the employees of a company directly affects their productivity and, consequently, can mean an increase in annual net profit of between 7 and 13%.
This is one of the reasons why more and more companies are betting on techniques that encourage the development of their teams’ Emotional Intelligence.
So, which aspects does it improve?
Developing Emotional Intelligence improves critical aspects for professional performance. Going back to the factors that we mentioned in our previous post, we can affirm that by working with IE we will be able to influence:
- Interpersonalcommunication
- Teamwork
- The degree of empathy
- Leadership
- Decision making
- Theability to face new challenges and difficulties
- Enthusiasm
- The degree of satisfaction of our collaborators
We recommend Carlos Hernández’s book “Optimismo para torpes (Optimism for Dummies)“, which introduces us to the concept of intelligent optimism. He defines it as the ability to maintain an optimistic stance despite the difficulties. An optimistic attitude is not incompatible with feeling moments of fear, anger or discouragement, even sadness. These emotions are the counterweight without which there would be no courage, illusion or joy. The key, as Carlos Hernández explains in his book, is to be able to face those feelings without allowing them to take over.
The emotional toolbox
A negative attitude can have consequences in the perception of facts, in the interpretation of the attitude of others and, ultimately, in our company’s work environment.
For this reason, it is important to provide our collaborators with an “emotional toolbox” so that they are able to detect and overcome the feelings provoked by the adversities that may be found along the way.
In short, it is all about working to achieve an emotionally healthy company.
